Of course, I base this opinion being that I saw the series first over 8 years ago. And if anyone remembers the original OAVs it was obvious who Tenchi liked back (remember the shack in the rain?)
Of course, this still doesn't get past the problem that Ayeka is Tenchi's Great Aunt. (if Ayeka was original going to marry her brother Yosho, and Yosho happens to be Tenchi's Grandfather...well...you see the problem).

To this day no one really has gone back to touch the whole 'marry your brother' thing. Perhaps it was explained better in the Manga. But since they continued to change and re-tell the tale in future series, in my experience no one seemed to mind.
