No hon that is croquet!! Totally different!
Cricket is like baseball, the same way rugby is related to american football!
Well Yuuji let me see if I can enlighten you.
Cricket is played with 2 teams of 11 players. One side bats and the other side bowls.
The side that is batting send in 2 players. One at each wicket (post) the players stand facing each other by a wicket and when the ball is hit it is their job to make as many runs as possible. They run to the opposite wicket and once they arrive safe;y that is a run.
If the runs are even, eg. 2 runs the same person bats, but if the runs are odd, eg. 1 run, the partner bats. ie whoever is at the head wicket bats.
The runners try to make as much runs as possible and the bowler tries to hit the wicket, the men standing on the field (fielders) try to catch the ball. (All fielding spots have interesting names like silly midden and wicket keeper)
The pads are necessary cause the cork ball is really hard and can break bones if it hits you just so!
Once the stumps on the wicket fall then the runner on that side is out, the other one can get safely to the opposite stumps.
If the ball gets to the boundary of the field then its 4 runs and if it gets to the boundary without touching the ground its 6 runs.
That's cricket in a nutshell. Its fun to play, we play in our backyard and on the street or whereever, but we use tennis balls. I got hit by a cork ball as a child and I tend to avoid them!!!
