Do you mean the Sailor Starlights?? 1st) they wern't gay. Fighter only thought he had feelings for Usagi. She relized in the end, that it was just because she resembled their princess. 2nd) Naoko Takeuchi DID NOT origanlly intended for them to be men. In fact in the Manga the Starlights were women who crossdreesed (like Haruka did). She was quite upset that the animators took the liberity of making them men.
