The Monty Python Riddle

Ok guys, so it goes a little something like this:

You're a contestant and you've just won the gameshow. There are 3 doors to choose from, in which 1 contains a prize, and the other 2 contains goats. The gameshow host tells you to make your first pick, so you choose a door. Then, the gameshow host reveals a door with a goat behind it, and asks if you want to switch doors, after seeing the goat.

Do you switch and why?

Oh gosh I've seen this riddle before... I think it was during maths lesson. My teacher was teaching something about probability and he used this as an example :P

the math lesson is because after seeing the goat on first door the probabily of finding a goat or a prize on teh next one isnt 50% as u normaly think.

You have a 33.333% chance of picking the prize with your first choice. After one goat has been revealed, your chance is 50% whether you change it or not; that fact that you are given the choice changes the probability.

this is just speculation but.....maybe you shouldnt switch doors because if you do they will put the prize behind it knowing that you will switch so that way you wont find the prize.

well.... it depends really, the way i readed the riddle the host opened a different door than the one the contestant chosed... so i wouldn't switch?

That is correct; a door you did not choose is opened.

Of course you change! You have 1 in 3 chance of getting it on the first go, nwo u have 1 in 2. Who wants a goat anyway :S
