They are using 1337 (or Leet Speak). It's a form of internet language such as AOL speak (using BRB, u instead of you, ect.), however it's much cooler, because it takes more skill than deleteing letters. But like wise, it can be also as annoying to read as AOL Speak.

i only do it on occasion, li9ke for this contest, or if im chatting and want to make someone go "huh???" lol

I was just stating that it could be annoying. I personally would rather read it than AOL speak. So all I was saying is that given certain situations (this one not included) it could be annoying. Like say if someone posted a bunch of 1337 speak in a serious topic. That would be annoying. But an unserious one, it isn't really annoying.
