"See what you saw" - saw is the past tense of see. Saw is aslo a tool (what we use to cut wood). Two different meanings, but they share the same spelling.
"Two halves make a whole" - "whole" is to be complete, the entire thing. Two halves of an object, when put together, are the whole object. Using the whole object, he then used the homonym (word that sounds the same) "hole," which is an opening in something.
