Discussion on classical music
I was wondering if anyone out there actually likes classical music anymore (besides me)...so I started this thread! I w)anted an actual discussion on classical music, not just "Who is your favorite composer?" and things of that nature. However, if I may go against what I just said (in order to get the ball rolling), my favorite composers include Berlioz, Holst, and, of course, Mahler. If anyone would like to say anything about them that is interesting or productive, let me know.

As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story…
If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself…
Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be. And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy.

Re: Discussion on classical music
Mostly I listen to the three, four? Germans: Bach, Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven. For variety, the local cable TV service has a 24 hour text news summary accompanied by classical music, the sound quality is at least as good as FM stereo. Only downside, I might find some music appealing but there doesn't seem to be any way to find out the playlist.

Re: Discussion on classical music
well i listen to the most well known such as Bach and Mozart but i listen to a lot of others but am not sure who the composers are. i just enjoy the music as a whole not concerned with who composed or wrote the music.

Re: Discussion on classical music
I like orchestrated music, and I've liekd some classical music I've heard. Heck, I listen to more orchestrated music than any rock bands or anything like that. I'll have to check some of the music mentioned in this thread.

Of course, you can enjoy classical music without knowing the composer or the musicians playing it, but knowing this bare minimum of information allows one to further explore and to possibly gain a better understanding of the composer and his music.

I like the German Composers too. I also like Hyden. Then for symphonic band, I like James Swearingen. One of my favorites by him is Seagate Overture.

Re: Discussion on classical music
im more of a balanced out listener. i listen to pretty much anything and everything as long as it doesnt get on my nerves and the beat is good. but classical is great for calming down, studying, background music, and the like.
