CGI is replacing the essence of film..
Last night I saw War of the Worlds.. It was.. okay. The effects were great as one would come to expect now. The acting was really good, I won't refute that.. but.. capturing the essence of terror that I remember from the original War of the Worlds movie, it just wasn't there. I feel like I can't explain how, but I just feel that the essence of the art of theatre is just getting overpowered by this CGI / Special effects thing. It was a great movie for what we've all come to "expect" now. But I still love the campy terror of the original. *LOL*

Naw.. See I never saw the original series so I had fun with the movie, but it wasn't like I was really captivated by it.. I just thought it was entertaining.. But I'm sure that I would agree with you, cuz as a rule of thumb, redoing things usually just doesn't do it.

Yeah that is true.. and I tried to put that in perspective.. regarding the fact that if I were younger I might be more scared of this film.. But I don't think it's quite the same.. It was so violent (very cool) but it seemed there was a real psychological emphasis on the first movie that as a child I could just bare to watch the film because it was very edgy but not so much that it was overkill intense.. but the psychological emphasis worked on me so much more than the "effects".. that's what I like in film.

Re: CGI is replacing the essence of film..
Lol I dont think any scary movie are scary really unless they do that unexepected jump out thingy. And even the I have to psych myself up and get myslef into to be really scared by it.... Another thing is that what the monsters look like are soo boring. The best mosnter Ive seen in a long time was the grudge monster lol. And that was the scairest movie. So unexepected the scenes were lol. And it starts out creepy lol.

Re: CGI is replacing the essence of film..
*LOL* I didn't think the Grudge was scarey at all.. I was cracking up listening to people scream when they saw her crawling down the stairs.. and the boy watching the woman in the elevator..
Movies that scare me are the kind that hit a deep fear within me..
But.. I have actually thought about dressing up like the Grudge this halloween.. *evil grin* <-- little grudge face.. *LOL*

Re: CGI is replacing the essence of film..
The scariest part of that movie I thought was the under the covers part. Most of the time when you see a scary movie and like its dark and your mind is wondering you get yourslef scared, but you can always hide under the covers. It doesnt even come from above the sheets either.... I didnt scream when she was comin down the stairs lol, that part was boring. And I go to movies to try and get scared lol, so if I didnt make myself all scared Id be alughing too, but thats no fun....
