On the other hand, it mimiced the enticing style of Frank Miller. Also this might be the tip of the iceberg regarding the capturing of fantasy using green screen CGI. Although 'Sky Captain' has done this before, it was an original work. The floodgates could be open to many other visual (but 2-d) masterpieces.
It was also nice to see what a real xiphos would do to a human being, instead of the fake hits we see all the time in the movies.
(and for those who know the true history of the battle, if you listen carefully enough you'll hear them drop salient facts - like it was the Phoneicians who were supposed to guard the goat pass, and failed)

I do like that they dropped hints in about the true history. To let you all know, it was more like about 6,000-7,000 Spartans against about 400,000 Persians (which was about 35% of the worlds population at that time). Thats still an outrageous amount, and the 6,000 took out a shitload of the Persians.
I also loved how they mixed in a very slight amount of Greek mythology, being as in how Zeus rained down his thunderbolts on the floating ships (and I was expecting Poseidon to come up at that time, but he didn't :/). Also, the mythical creatures were part of that.
All around a VERY great great movie that redefined the way that we watch action scenes.
