As the long years passed Toki was taught by many, but failed to reach knighthood. He was expelled and banished from his home, left to wander the wilderness. In his travels Toki hunted for his food and of a night slept on the hard ground wishing for the warm bed forsaken to him.
On one particular night Toki was roughly awakened from his slumber as he was wrenched to his feet by a sourly looking man, the man had a repugnant smell wafting from him the smell was of rotten teeth and stale ale, this man was a mercenary. The mercenary threw Toki to the ground as the rest of the mercenary group stood back and laughing. Toki felt an anger awake in him, his fist clenched and swung as the mercenary reached forward to grab him again as Toki connected with the jawbone there was a resounding, “CRACK!” as the mans jaw snapped, his eyes glazed and he slumped to the floor unconscious.
Toki stayed where he was feeling like a trapped animal ready to strike at anyone who threatened him, but Toki was shocked when an elder man dressed in leather armors approached with both hands out to signify no threat, the man asked for his name and was given the reply, “I am Toki Wartooth the Exiled and who may you be?”, with slight sarcasm in his voice.
The man merely smiled and introduced himself, “I am Terendan, leader of the mercenary band The Black Guardians”. He apologized for the unconscious man Darious, he explained that Darious didn’t like many people, because he was ostricised everywhere he went because he had no control of his temper. Toki and the man talked well into the night about why Toki was where he was and about the life of a mercenary, by the end of the night Toki had become a member of the Black Guardian mercenary band……………….
