i think hikaru is not very good lover as he does not appreciate the kindness that his neighbour and his family gave it to him. I know its all about go but dont u think hikau should at least be kind to his girlfriend instead of always yelling at her. should girls deserved that kind of treatment ??

i much agree. hikaru is much too involved in go and kinda disregards his social life in general.

He even has a Gf? I'm on the second season, and I doubted such character development would occur. And I just cannot get fully into the Go games, because I don't know how to play Go. And I'd think its that Spirit is the truly addicted one.

If akari IS his gf..I dun think hikaru regards her as one yet..maybe sometime once they're older..and besides like Ogata-san he didn't even care abt his girl..only abt go..maybe go players are so into it.that their only social life is the people in go world..I noe it's sad that akari likes hikaru and maybe Hikaru mite not return her love..but theres hope just yet .

Oh hey people, people, tsk tsk tsk. You people don't understand 1 thing ; these (supposedly stupid in my opinion) people's passion 4 Go is different from what we think. It's not just a game 2 them, like that is not just an anime 2 me. Hmm...supposedly hard 2 explain =.= oh well. But hey, I already thought of a good fanfiction to pull Hikaru and Akari together. Woa, wahey, hoping that they would do just that in the next season, if any next season would pop up at all =.=

Girlfriend?? Hmm. I think it's just one-sided love for Akari. Both the anime and the manga never blatantly show that they are lovers and Akari never confessed to Hikaru; though, they do show that there would be future love relationship between the two. I don't think Hikaru is that indefferent. It's just that the anime and manga focus more on the Go play and competition rather than the relationship between the characters except for the strong rivalry between Hikaru and Touya.

Hikaru's life and world is Go. Social life and everyone else comes second because Go requires so much dedication and concentration. It's like other professional activities like chess or pro sports. It sounds harsh but when you're at the pro level, you can't be distracted by everyday life things including social relationships.
