Referals

I know I've asked this question somewhere else before but I forgot where I posed the question, so here goes...

What is a referal and how do I increase the number for that?

Correct me if I'm wrong 'cause I didn't understand the last explanation that was given to me completely. I can increase the number of referals by posting links and introducing people to external sites??

If you are referring to the referral system in this forum, I guess there's not more use for it atm. You can refer a user to this forum, and when they register for the forum, they must enter your username here in the referral box which they will be prompt when they signup. Then your referral will increase by one. I currently have 24 referrals if I'm not wrong.
