Possible Spoiler: Human Transmutation
Whenever a human transmutation is performed, a sacrifice is taken usually as a body part from the alchemist performing the transmutation:
Ed lost his leg, and Al his entire body when they created Sloth (ED lost the arm getting Al's soul to stay.)
Izumi lost internal organs when she created Wrath.
Scars brother lost his genitals when he created Lust (well, that's what it looks like!!)
My question is what body part do you think Hohenheim lost when he created Envy?

Okay anyway, at the end, Ed didn't loose any limbs right, he did afterall transmute his brother back, and woke up to find himself in another dimension. Correct me ppl if I'm wrong, but what I think is that it happened to Hohenheim too. He was from the medival times, then he was transported to Trisha's time/world. I think that is his lost and his gain too. He was brought to another world, leaving his home and everything, but in the end, he married trisha. Ed didnt loose limbs, so as Hohemhiem. But they gave up all the years of experience they had with their love ones.

Re: Possible Spoiler: Human Transmutation
I agree with LenaSaint, that makes a lot of sense. His payment for doing human transmutation was being taken to another world/dimension and being forced to start his life over.

Re: Possible Spoiler: Human Transmutation
I thought that he just jumped from one body to the next using the philosophers stone, and they didnt say what he lost with the transmutation of envy?

I disagree.
At that time Ed didn't make a homunculus out of Al. You lose body parts when you make them.
At the end of the series - the part you are referring to; Edward died. Alphonse brought him back, sacrificing himself. Edward returned to life with his body completely intact. Then he sacrificed himself intending to die and brought Alphonse back. It was at this time he went through th gate and came to our world. His automail was back again.
But I'm referring to the time when Hohenheim made Envy. He was NOT from another dimension. He was originally from Amestris - he and Dante. Together they destroyed the original Central City killing all the people to make the philosopher's stone. (That was the underground city.) The two of them used it to swap bodies and perpetuate their lives until it was used up and they needed another one. Hohenheim by this time was sick of Dante and left her, met and married Trishia. Dante had no one then to make the philosopher's stone for her and tried to trick Ed into doing it.

Re: Possible Spoiler: Human Transmutation
Hohenheim was seriously hurt and I think that Dante used the stone to cast his soul into another body.

Re: Possible Spoiler: Human Transmutation
Since hohenhiem jumps bodies its probably impossible to tell, and he might even not have had to lose anything since he had the philosophers stone to help with the transmutation.

Re: Possible Spoiler: Human Transmutation
Hmmm that's true I never thought about the philosopher's stone. It's true then that maybe he DIDN'T lose any body parts or transferred into another body right away. I never thought of that.
Another thought I wonder what happens to the soul of the body that they take over - does it get kicked out or stayed trapped as a prisoner? Again we'll never know but always wonder...

Re: Possible Spoiler: Human Transmutation
hmmm The lost of parts is from the mistake of not having the stone. The P. stone seems to be the key.
