I agree it probably won't be available in our life time unless the world perhaps were to work as one nation and not try to destroy each other.

That would be cool. However, remember in the show - the moon exploded and Earth became a wasteland for a long while because a jump gate blew up when they first started developing the technology. The way they represent space travel in Cowboy BeBop isn't too far-fetched and may even be do-able in the distant future (rather than Star Trek's warp technology). But the dangers are also a real challenge.

it would be really cool if we could travel in space. but we would have to learn how to populate other planets without endangering ourselves. a lot of problems are posed if we were to decide to move into the stars. also traveling such large distances in space would prove to be a problem to. it wouldnt be that far fetched though and could be quite possible in the next millenia if we dont kill each other first.

travel in space would be really cool to do. Imaging how far out in the universe you could travel. Traveling from planet to planet when the temperature is too hot or cold.
