Are you Scared of Death?
Basically this is a very elaborate question and complex, but i'd like to see your views on it.
I've read many philosophy books and concluded that Religion is here as a way to overshadow death. Many many years ago death was a feared thing, what a better way to overcome the fear of death by including an 'after life'.
Sit down and think about it, imagine death without religion in context. When you die everything finished no life no living everything just stops FOR EVER you cant think your life is finished, I think of it every day and it always shocks me and brings shivvers into my body!
Are you scared? Truth please, coz i am!

Yeah, I think that it's natural for anyone to be afraid of not "being" anymore. No one really remembers what it was like to NOT be. You just suddenly are, and the concept of anything is deeply routed. I have a memory of when I was a little girl, I think it was one of my first. I just remember lying in my bed, looking up at the ceiling and just knowing that I was alive. It was a simple concept I suppose but it is a very warm feeling.
Perhaps there is something after this life. Perhaps there is a reason we keep seeking for more. Then again perhaps we do just really cease exhistence. That would be weird. To just not be anymore. Personally I just don't believe that though. Because, I think there is a reason for us having something beyond just a physical exhistence. There is desire, and that seems to extend outside of the natural world.
Regardless, I voted for yes. I am afraid of death. It's kind of like that gut fear when you get strapped into the seat of a really intense roller coaster ride, and you know that there is no turning back. You HAVE to go through with it. There is no escape.

Re: Are you Scared of Death?
As much as I don't like the enviroment I live in at times, I still wouldn't want to die at this point. It would mean that everything I've done til now was for naught. I haven't really done anything of much meaning for my existance yet, so I'd rather wait til that happens.
My biggest fear is being alone. At home I'm fine if I'm alone. If I'm at a store alone then I kinda feel a little odd. I'm probably gonna feel really uneasy once I do leave home Oh well

Re: Are you Scared of Death?
i'm not afraid of death, i am religous, but even if we did simply cease to exist it still doesnt scare me. There is nothing to be scared of if you cease to exist. We make impressions around us by simpling being here. like your family and your friends even now. And while you may not have accomplished some great thing as of yet, still there would be people to look upon your memory fondly when you pass. and hey we have to face it sometime so why not face your fear now, get over it and go"hey i can do whatever i want now" because yeah death is coming lol. no need fear the inevetable(although it is natural to fear the unknown)
so yeah i'm not afraid. i could go right now and not care. (though my family would be sad and i certinely dont want to die now, i'm not afraid of it)

Re: Are you Scared of Death?
simple answer, no. dieing is just like going to sleep, but not waking up. you cant use the excuse that their are things you havent done yet, because if you die, do you really think you are going to care afterwards?

Wow! Exactly my thoughts! Even though I enjoy life, and would be sad to lose it, there is nothing to be afraid of. If there is heaven (which i think there is) then I actually look forward to it (but thats not saying I want to go NOW) and if it just ends then its not really that scary.
I think that this also has to be a time-related thing. I dont want to die NOW but I dont mind dying. The biggest reason for not wanting to die now is all the people who it would affect.
Actually fairly recently there was a time when I thought I might die. I kind of just resolved myself to it. I wasn't going to give up, but I accepted that it might happen. Please dont ask about this, id rather not share it to strangers.

Re: Are you Scared of Death?
hmph, heaven. do you really think their is a heaven? if so, do you really think you are worthy enough of entering this "heaven"?

Re: Are you Scared of Death?
Yes I think there is heaven.
No I don't think I am worthy to enter it. Which is why it is so great that it doesn't matter if I am worthy. No-one is worthy except Jesus. All have sinned etc. but the one who hasn't sinned died to take the punishment for my sin. This means that although I am not worthy, I can still enter heaven. All I need to do is take it. It's free. I just need to trust God.
Well that was WAY too brief, but its a summary.

Re: Are you Scared of Death?
kickbutt, again, these minor details you seem to miss so often. what you said means that i can sin all i like, but i'll get into heaven if i "trust god".
