You could spend more time recollecting the ones you've read so far...

Any "Dungeons & Dragons"-based novels are a nice addition; "Curse of the Azure Bonds" is interesting as it introduces the concept of non-human paladins; "The Deathgate Cycle" series by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman is also a good read given the 'alternative' magic of runecasting.

How about the classics? The tale of Beowulf, or even J.R.R. Tolkien books (I'd recommend apart from the more famous trilogy "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit" to read the history of Middle Earth a la "The Silmarillion"). Although Terry Brooks' works like "The Sword of Shannara" and "The Elfstones of Shannara" are touted as Tolkien rip-offs, I thought "The Wishsong of Shannara" was original on it's own.

Robert E. Howard's "Conan" books are also a good 'He-man' sort of fantasy read; and you could try reading Ursula K. Le Guin's "The Earthsea Trilogy".

The fantasy that I like is more light in nature -- not Lord of the Rings, you know. But I would recommend The Dragonback Adventures by Timothy Zahn. It's part Sci-Fi in nature, but it's AMAZING. I love it! It's got... four books out so far? Maybe five. I'm waiting for the next one.

I'd also recommend The Myth series by Robert Asprin. It is the most hilarious fantasy series I have ever, ever read, and everyone should read it. It's finished, with about 12 books, so you don't have to worry about waiting. (The first book is Another Fine Myth).

Among newer Fantasy series, the 2 authors i really love are
Russell Kirkpatrick's Fire of Heaven Trilogy (only recently released by OrionUK)
& Trudi Canavan's Black Magician's Trilogy & Priestess of the White Trilogy

Both were released earlier in their own country (new zealand & australia) but only got the full series this year...

I like the Inheritance trilogy, esp. the 2nd book, which is really thoughtful.

Hope it helps
