For the most part, when it comes to guys & gifts, we're not too different to shop for - we recognize the giver of the gift more than the gift itself.
What I mean by that, is that depending on the level of the relationship, in this case a very strong romantic companionship, gifts are more a symbol of the relationship rather than a material good.
In otherwords, if the gift were a quiet evening out to a campfire with just the two of you, the conversation that goes with such an evening is more memorable than the fact it there was a campfire on.
So basically, when you're looking for a gift, remember who you're giving it to, and in ensuring that it's something that appeals to as much of who they are as possible, you're not going to be disappointed with his response.
Of course, this is coming from someone who spent the majority of his college years as a hermit, so use my advice with caution. It may not work out that well.
