Well from the short description I can understand his side. I feel like his type in this matter. I had female friends who would cling to me and I knew they liked me but I never really let them get close. If he is single, and he doesn't return your feelings then he isn't interested, but is probably letting you go along so that he gets his ego fix. Even if he tells you to bug off he knows that you are going to stick around because you like the abuse. So basically what he is doing now is just letting you linger on the dream. Which, you cannot blame him for because everyone loves attention. I would say you need to take a step back and re-evaluate your self worth. You probably stay close because he is like a security blanket to you. I can probably guess that he says harsh things but they are true, and he has always looked out for you and that is the kindness of him being there after the last guy. Anyways, you need to learn to love yourself before you get into a relationship with anyone else. You can continue to let him leave you lingering or you can move on and just remain friends with him, or not.

The fact that he said that it makes him sad that you said sorry, I don't believe that he totally does not have any feelings... but I believe he's in a total self-defense mechanism, which in turn makes him that... I think that his mind is in the state of chaos & total denial... But I won't recommend sticking with him much... I'll advice you to just let it cool off the situation until you think that things are well enough... But don't expect it to happen soon, because it won't!

... how about you two sit down in some quiet place and you just talk to him...??

.. you could tell him that you feel attracted to him (just to clear it up and so you 'own' your feelings and he can no longer lord it over your head).. then tell him you would like to know what he thinks and how he feels.... you can use the 'I like you as a friend, but there could be more here, if we are both interested' approach'... that way you can tell where his head is....

... if all he wants is an ego-boost then you can walk away with just a little embarrassment, but you can also learn more about how he feels about you... especially if he is not interested... I'm sure you will be able to pick up on it....

or... you can keep playing the guessing game based on clues that you are not sure of the meaning of....
