I don't talk much in person...so the first thing I would notice is how responsive she is. I can ask a few questions in the first conversation, but if she doesn't come back with questions enough to equate mine (in terms of quantity), I'll just stop trying...

It's bad enough one side doesn't talk, if the other doesn't either it just gets lame...besides, I'm already really quiet, anyone who can do it better than me has serious problems...lol...otherwise, she's just not interested even to be friends and that's the end of that...

Next I'll notice personality and interests from the conversation of course...

First impressions will, no matter how non materialistic you try to be, probably be looks. If they are presented well then I'd go ahead and initiate conversation or at least I wouldn't be wary of approaching them. Then the quality of the conversation would be the next box to tick then personality etc.

I'm a guy. I have to admit, overall appearance does matter quite a bit. When I was in high school, appearance of some female classmates turned me off. Some were fat AND had garishly awful hair color and no sense of fashion. Some overdid on makeup, some stank of cigarette smoke. But there was someone who did manage to pull it off - funky hair color, bohemian/goth style clothes, heavy makeup, etc. She did make sure that every detail is right. The color of the hair may have been funky, but the hair had a healthy shine and bounce to it. The clothes sat well on her, and her silhouette was actually quite curvy and attractive. Her hair was short, but healthy and well-styled. She did sometimes wear heavy makeup, but it fit well with the rest of the appearance, and did not appear overdone. And she did not reek of smoke or cosmetics. And oh, yeah, she was smart enough to be in my calculus class my junior year of high school. My first impression of her was, 'wow, funky girl!', not exactly someone I'd immediately want to approach for a date, but... She was a perfectly decent classmate, with a pretty cool personality.

Hm the first thing I usually notice is the face. Like teeth. If a guy has a cute face but he has bad teeth it's over I won't like him at all because I am obsessed with teeth. And vice versa if a guy I don't think is all that cute has really good teeth suddenly he's cuter to me.

Body-wise I like toned guys. No muscle heads and no skinny as hell guys either. I like toned guys.

Then personality-wise he has to be able to hold his own in a debate, a discussion and an arguement. The one thing I can't stand are spineless moronic guys. I like guys that have a level head and a plan for the future because that way I know I won't have to worry about him and that he might be able to understand me since I'm a very goal oriented person.

My taste is very general and tends to vary depending on the guy and where I am in my life, but overall those are the things that have held true.

As a guy, I first notice the girl's face. I look for an attractive face before the rest.
