I put the cheese on before I cut it up =P
And it makes me sad you don't like fruit! >_<
Ahhh, I have soo much bento stuff coming.
Three new bento boxes with all of the extras (bag, chopsticks, band),
food dividers, molds, sauce containers... 22 items in all, and I ordered
it from a 100 yen store that has good quality stuff and a branch in San Francisco, so it only cost $35.
Here are the bento boxes:
TU1: As far as I know, I'm free Monday night. So MAKE SURE YOU GET ONLINE! We have to talk!
TakeMeForCola: No I have NOT, thank you very much! *sniffs*

Ah, IC.
Misunderstood...thought you had eaten so much of it, like President Obama, that you hate the stuff now.

That makes two of us.
Fruit and Fish -- two of the healthiest foods humans can eat...and I dislike/hate 90% of them! (100% for fish)
So not only do I have to miss out with varied dishes, its also unhealthy for me! *sigh*
I think for fruit it must be a texture problem, for I like most things 'flavored' like fruits...just not the fruits themselves (unlike fish, which I just despise)...of course, the extra sugar doesn't hurt either. The only other odd thing that taste horrendous to me, is alcohol...but that's not necessary for health. But a complete loss for missing out (and thus networking) through social situations.
Still, I love apples (mostly of the Delicious variety) and bananas' are good too, when ripe.
Sidenote: A Japanese apple - Ringo (the one they sell at stores) tastes like a Delicious apple, so I love 'em. Although they are about 5X the size! They are huge! (thus cost between $3-$6 depending on season). Sega-san used to cut one up for me every day (as I was finicky with mostly everything else) when we visited - which was so nice.
Scroll through these sites to see 'em.

*Blinks*
Wait...so all three of these bentos are coming?
Also with other stuff as well??
So you are not just shopping for 22 items...you've _ordered_ 22 items?
If so, you are definitely going full bore.
As you are making your own meals, enriching yourself with another culture, etc...how do your parents feel about it all?

I personally like the blue one the most.
Although I love hunter dark green, I like navy blues as well.
Not so hot about the polka dots on the bag though. But that's just me...and its for you instead!
At least this sounds like you've been having tons of fun with 'em. Ne?
Also, have other people (IRL - in real life) commented yet when they see them? Especially your Japanese class.
Which....now that I think about it...is coming to finals. How are you coming along? Any of your Japanese books making more sense?
Can you read opening titles to Japanese anime now? (usually they are in hiragana, or katakana.)

Re: Ask Kate
That's a big apple, lol, I went searching on google to find a comparative pic and found one.

That would be a meal in itself.

"what do you mean 'that's all'?!"

And you are right, its great for comparison (I forgot about showing some sort of scale).
It's also a pretty good example of what a Japanese kitchen looks like. Very tight and small, and you can see a good example of what Japanese detergent bottles look like.
....and they also are, IMHO, delicious.

Re: Ask Kate
I wonder if that big grocery store that Kate likes has them, if so maybe I should find out how much and buy one via her.
Are they naturally that big? I try to avoid GMO (genetically modified organism) foods if possible.

That I do not know. Sorry.
But if you find out, it probably says alot about japanese produce transport.

Re: Ask Kate
Wow, those apples are huge!
I want one, even though I'm not overly fond of apples, I guess I have a more exotic taste when it comes to fruits =P
I ate my persimmon the other day, and it was good. My mother claimed it tasted like a mango, but I beg to differ, considering I don't like mango.
Yeah, I ordered all 22 items, and they came! I can't wait to use them.
But lately, I haven't had as many chances to make them, because with my school schedule of getting out early, it's kind of a hassle to stay for lunch.
But I have to stay after school on Mondays, so I will be making one Sunday night in one of the new boxes.
I'm annoyed because I forgot to order the chopsticks for the monkey case, so I'll have to use some other ones for it. I have a bunch of chopsticks laying around anyways, maybe I'll use hello kitty ones =D
Also, during Christmas, we're going to CA to visit family, and we're going to spend some time in San Francisco, where Ichiban Kan is located. I'm totally visiting, and I'm probably going to buy a ton more stuff *_*
Since I think they have a bigger selection than online. And I'm goign to buy a bento box as a Christmas present for my best friend =D
My mom hasn't really said much about it, but she likes to look at my stuff =D
My sister is fascinated, though. A couple of my friends asked what they were when I brought them to school, but most are familiar with them due to their own like of Japanese things, or from seeing my friend Saina bring hers to school. But I don't bring them to Japanese class, since it's at night, so no one there knows.
I'm loving Japanese class, and finding it easier so far than Spanish. We're conjugating verbs and stuff now, which is nice to be able to make more sentences than "_________ wa _______ desu" type things =P
I can read hiragana easily now, almost as easily as I read Spanish =D
But I'm slacking off on learning katakana, so I need to work on that, since so many things in the textbook.. coffee, tennis, TV, etc, are written in katakana.
Oh, and I forgot to mention! I'm in the process of asking my parents about hosting an exchange student next year, and it's looking like my chances are pretty good =D

*chuckles* So the only fruit I really love....is one that you have no particular interest in, hmm?
Interesting....wonder if that has anything to do with different senses of taste (formally known as 'gustation')

*nods* I just recently had to go through the rules on why people hear things differently. Ranging from age factors (as degradation of the basiliar membrane and organ of corti), to social factors, to the wonders of an octave related complex.

Although that link is for a science journal...aka: BORING for most people.
For something else to think about, you already know about 'sweet, salty, sour and bitter' Taste - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
But there is also now and fifth term!
And the Japanese coined it: Umami
Umami - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Easier to read the article, then for me to try to explain it.
But being a fan of Japanese (and you are as well) I feel an extra closeness to the acceptance of the term.
...and you can probably spell it in Japanese too.

Yeah...I've got around 30 pairs of chopsticks taken from restaurants (given from restaurants, rather), and about 6 pairs of 'good' chopsticks.
And probably when you get to go to Japan, you'll have more pairs then you can count. Very easy to pick up multiple pairs when over there...especially with place settings.

Understood, and sounds great.
*thinks*
Has Saina given any comments about your Bento's? Or any tips for that matter? Or perhaps, any cooking ideas?

I wonder if that is because of all the years you spent listening to the language, while enjoying it at the same time?

'A-wa, B-es' is about all I can do. And I've been wanting to learn how to conjugate for many years now...but never have I gotten the chance to sit down and learn it. (I do not want to waste time try to self-study, and learn bad habits).
In a nutshell Kate, you now have more knowledge of Japanese, then I do.
Congradulations.
Especially on your hard work.

Oh, cool...but...
And exchange student from where? Are you targeting an exact country?
=================================
Now, there is a big secondary question that needs to be asked (and I'm little bit surprised you didn't mention it)
SO HOW WAS THE MOVIE????
...and do I even need to bother to say what movie I mean?
