Re: Neon Genesis Evangelion
You know, there are some animes, that arent made for children and require deeper thinking(altoght NGE isnt so dificult to understand), so if they are watching it, knowing it isnt a simple piece, than i dont understand why they complain. They just get one of the best of this type.

Re: Neon Genesis Evangelion
I have mixed feelings. The action is good, the plot is a bit convuluted but works itself out. I do agree with greyman that Shinji is a horrible chioce for hero. Almost everyone that watches NGE KNOWS they could do better, even Shinji knows it. I've read that to fully understand NGE's message you either have to be, or have been, seriously depressed. I dont know about that but it does make you think about things after you're done. Personally I think its a wonderful anime, but for pure entertainment purposes its not #1 for me. If you DONT want to deal the psychological introspection, stop after episode 13 (the one with the hacker Angel). Better yet...stop around the line "Its hot" by the Sub-Commander, no one should miss that scene.
Thank you for listening to my rantings, I'm done now.

Re: Neon Genesis Evangelion
As one of my very first animes, NGE is one of my personal favorites.
Though I love the technology and the characters, as well as understanding the point of the anime, I really hate the psychological aspect of the show. I hate the depression that runs about and the character deaths.
But even so, I think its still a great anime.

what did you expect a happy ending? i mean come on this is Evangelion we are talking about. it fits pretty well with the boarderline apoctolyptic tone of the entire series.

Re: Neon Genesis Evangelion
Evangelion was one of the great animes. 9/10 is what I would give it.
I love Shinji's character, he seems like an actual human being, not what you usually find on crappy kiddie animes that lack decent plots *cough* Inuyasha. You can't help but identify with his pain somehow, and the female characters are so vibrant, Asuka, Rei, Misato, Ritsuko. I really loved the personalities of each one.
In the end what this anime had going for it, despite the cool action scenes and apoctolyptic atmosphere, was the characters. Any great anime has to have great character development, and EVA had great character development. That's what made it stand out to me from the rest.
