Due to the new installment being released, I was wondering how many people feel that Robotech is Japanese anime or do you concider it US anime?

I have yet to hear anything about it.

Though I find it interesting that such a thing is possible. Robotech is an American amalgamation of three Japanese animes:
Macross
Southern Cross
and Mospeda

And Macross continued on with its own plotline into later animes (Macross Plus, for one)

So how did they get the copyrights for it?

I ask, because the game BattleTech used to use mech-models of certain Macross Mechs, and they lost the right to them some years ago. Thus I don't see why the Macross copyrighters want to suddenly share.

I realy don`t remember that BattleTech games have anything common with this anime series (except mechs ofcoz) interesting is that there exists also american strategic board games with BattleTech logo
