I was able to get through Downtown Tokyo fine enough with the bare Japanese I knew, but to actually hold a conversation, is hard as heck.
Sentence structure and conjugations, especially when modified by context, is quite difficult.
Hell, have you ever seen a New Yorker, Californian, and Mississippian who have never met before try to hold a conversation?
Let alone the old joke. The U.K. and the U.S. - two countries separated by a common language.
But at leas the Canadians understand us....most of the time.
After you hit some sites, and start to pick up more from the anime you are watching, feel free to move to some of the social sites.
There are plenty of Japanese who wish to become 'pen pals' with Americans. And you can help them with their English to boot.
And before you know it, you'll actually start taking your English Classes seriously, and even know what the 'definite article' is, let alone what an 'demonstrative adjective' is defined by. Next thing you'll know you'll be clarifying pronouns by asking what the antecedent is.
