I cannot tell you about real software that you can download for free.

But there are free sites out there to at least glance through, and see if you like:

Learn Japanese - Japanese Language
Learn Japanese : Learn Japanese Online : Learning Japanese

Heck, just type: 'Learning Japanese' in google, and you'll find tons of sites to start with.

None will be perfect.
But it's as good of place to start as any.
