I'd suggest that you use Linux to avoid piracy issues. The latest versions have excellent multimedia hardware support, and a plethora of programs, it's just a matter of finding something to suit your needs. Sure, Linux lags in WiFi support, and some games are available for windows only, but the selection of software is is good enough to keep me away from M$ and software piracy issues.
