no you dun have to change your motherboard. you only need to change your motherboard if you want to install some ram but your motherboard doesnt support it.

just make sure you place the ram in the correct slots and that your motherboard can support it

which motherboard do you have and what ram are you trying to install. also are there any other pre-existing sticks of ram?
