i'm serious - what's so good about school? i dont understand why there is such a culture which glorifies school as this necessary path to determine one's future.

sure, you CAN learn stuff... but the stuff you learn aren't actually all that useful. And teachers aren't really that smart (at least not in 50%+ of schools). Seriously, i used to have a math teacher who dropped math in high school.

recently i graduated. i've "learned" a lot... most of which don't enhance my perception of things, are politically motivated, and can be more concisely and broadly explored through the internet or self-learning etc.

what do you guys think?
School is necessary. Ummm how should I explain this...

When you're a kid you don't make "good" choices. You really don't know how. If you ask most children if they wanted to go to school they'd probably say no. The law protects that until they feel you're at the right age to make a right choice, which is what 16-17? Where you can drop out of school. If we didn't have school, things couldn't run. There wouldn't be anyone who would know how to be a teller at a bank. Or be a mayor. Yes, a lot of the things they do teach do seem to be, unimportant in some job fields, but it's better to have a variety of knowledge then to have only a certain ammount. Because like I said, when you're young you don't really know how to make good choices and some job ideas are way out there then what you really become. And they want to cover all fields of knowledge incase you want to become something else.

And yes, maybe some teachers don't really know much about teaching. Or what they're teaching. But not all schools are like that. I havn't been to one like that yet.

besides imagine the world full of illeducated people. We wouldn't have any of the inventions today...like the computer. or the phone. or anything of those sorts.
