You shouldn't be so quick to judge a series, that's why there are episodes to follow from the first episode.

If you like a plot combined between action and storytelling then you are right here.

It's a little bit invovled starting the beginning, but it acturally setup the story very well. Watch the first 10 episodes then went back to the first one would clear up why they did it that way. There are 4 storys in the 45 episodes made so far, story one on how Youko got involved, story two on the Taiki, STory three on how Youko establish the better handle of the kingdom (been part of rebellion herself, very fun story) and fourth is about past of King En on his crush of rebellion some hundreds years ago.

The story utilize a lots earlier Chinese governing system (like the ranks of offices, the local office, how the land divided to support the population) and some of the teachings. It takes some thinking to full appricate the story unlike a lot of anime shallow story pack with just actions.

At first all seems to be confusing with those vocabulary (most in Japanese..) and hard-to-understand things (the monkey devil, for example). Bear with it a little and you'll get hooked by this anime.

I even recommend watching this anime twice (or more if u feel like it ). After that you'll understand things you didn't understand before. At least that was my case. ^^"
